I just tried saving something as .xcf and then restarting GIMP normally to see
if it opens .xcf, and it does, and of course still wont open other image files.
So it does the same on my machine.

I guess starting it with the "--no-shm" argument like you said in comment #9 is
a good workaround until this bug gets fixed.
